What is the P.O.W.E.R. Project?
In the aftermath of the 2016 election, the ALCN and the Comfort Station started to discuss how to create a platform for resistance that could be supportive and sustainable. From a sequence of community meetings, the P.O.W.E.R. Project took shape as a collaborative response that would push back against intolerance.
The P.O.W.E.R. Project is a month-long series of programming emerging ALAANA cultural leaders and facilitated by artists and members from the community. The hope is that through a series of engagements, people will be able to not only lead their own actions but inspire others to take a stand against injustice and intolerance.
Over the last three cycles of the P.O.W.E.R. Project, 13 Programmers produced over 95 events ranging from performances, panel discussions, reading groups, live podcast recordings, nature walks, urban agriculture presentations film screenings, art markets, bilingual children's storytime, sound installations, zine libraries, and much more.
